KURUKANFUGA HISTORY

LES PARTIES PRENANTES DE KOUROUKANFOUGA

THE PARTICIPANTS OF KOUROUKANFOUGA

This book by Youba Bathily is divided into two parts. The first is devoted to the context of Kouroukanfouga. This part deals with the peoples of the Mande before the conquest by Sosso, the exile of Soudiata, the forces involved, the battles won by Sosso and then the Mande and the foundations of the Kouroukanfouga initiative.

The second part of the book deals with the Kouroukanfouga meetings, the content of the agreements and the implementation of the charter.

The main revelations of the book are

1.Malinké, Soninké, Bamabara, Bissa, Sénoufo, Dogon, Peul, Bobo lived on the territory of the Mandé

2. The Fulani came to the Mande in the 4th century

3. The Sosso-Sossodaga confederation existed 45 years before the Mali empire. Some Keyta left this confederation to create the kingdom of Sosso. The rest of the confederation became the Mandé.

4. Soumaoro was not the only king of Sosso. The name of Dankaran Toumani is Massakan. Soundiata's grandfather did not have an Arabic name, he was called Fabla.

9. The last battle was at Dobrika. Soumaoro was wounded there before dying in Mandé and not Koulikoro

10. The initiative of Kouroukanfouga was taken after the battle of Negueboria. A reflection committee was set up in Missamana (Kankan region)

11. The site of Kouroukanfouga would be Habaladougou-Kéniéba

12. There were two meetings in Kouroukanfouga to bring together 47 communities

13. The defeat of the Sosso took place in 1248 and not in 1235.

14 The charter has more than 44 articles
